”I´ve been looking forward to joining the team of the Independent Barents Observer and to continuing the good work that we started many years ago in covering all the interesting things that are going on in the Barents Region and in the Arctic”, Trude says.
As with the rest of the news team, Trude Pettersen quit her former job in the Norwegian Barents Secretariat following conflict over the editoral freedoms of Secretariat newspaper BarentsObserver.com.
With Trude in place, the Barents editorial staff can boast the same strength as before, now however with an independent and journalist-owned newspaper. The Independent Barents Observer follows the principles of the Norwegian Rights and Duties of the Editor and regional authorities have no owner interests in the company, nor influence on newsmaking.
”We are so happy that we again have the same, strong news team of highly qualified and experienced staff members”, journalist and company Director Atle Staalesen says. ”This gives us a solid basis for more quality newsmaking and new journalistic initiatives in the region”, he underlines.
Trude Pettersen takes the position as News Editor. She starts in the job at the same time as the newspaper is officially included in the Eye on the Arctic, the circumpolar news network.
The news team now counts three journalists, all of them people with many years of work experience from regional cross-border cooperation and journalism.
