In a government decree from late April, Kovtun was officially included in the Russian body on Arctic affairs. With the post, the regional leader takes a seat among Russia’s top decision makers on the Arctic.

Kovtun was present in today’s Commission meeting in Arkhangelsk. In that meeting, the development of the Murmansk Transport Hub was on the agenda along with other Arctic transportation projects like the development of the Sabetta port, the Murmansk government informs.

The Russian State Arctic Commission was established in March 2015 in a bid to boost and harmonize the country’s activities in the region. The body is headed by Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Rogozin. Among the commission members is a big number of top government officials, ministers, regional leaders and business representatives.
