Norwegian-owned hotel in Murmansk won court case

The Norwegian-owned Hotel Park Inn Polyarnye Zori has for the second time won a court case against the Alcohol Licensing Department in Murmansk.

In September last year, the hotel lost its license to sell alcoholic beverages after an anonymous tip led to an unannounced control of the hotel’s bar.

Later it became clear that the tip was fabricated and that the hotel had done nothing illegal in connection with the sale of alcohol.

An arbitration court in Murmansk in December declared that the cancellation of the license to sell alcohol was incorrect. The Licensing Department appealed the decision, but lost again in the court in St. Peterburg, Murmansk Business News reports.

The case with Hotel Park Inn Polyarnye Zori has been much discussed both in Russian and Norwegian media. Murmansk business circles called it an example of “corruption and attempt to squeeze out foreign business”.

The Norwegian-owned hotel lost a lot of money during the more than two months it was not allowed to serve alcohol to its guests.
