Arkhangelsk welcomes foreign diplomatic missions

The Northern Russian town of Arkhangelsk hopes that more countries will follow Norway’s example and open honorary consulates. Soon a modern international business-center with room for consulates opens in the city center.

Governor of Arkhangelsk Oblast Ilya Mikhalchuk has ordered that a building next to the popular hotel Pur Navolok on the shore of the river Dvina shall be reconstructed to house an international business-center, Dvinainform reports. The building is owned by the regional administration and has not been in use for the last couple of years.

The center will also have suitable offices for foreign countries that wish to open honorary consultes in Arkhangelsk.

Norway opened its only honorary consulate to Russia in Arkhangelsk September this year. This is so far the only foreign representation office in the Barents Region’s largest town. Arkhangelsk is expected to play an important role in Arctic shipping and logistics in the future.
