Facelift for Murmansk waterfront

The members of Russia’s Maritime Board propose to give a major facelift to the waterfront areas in Murmansk city.

According to the board, a government body, the areas facing the Kola Bay should be subjected to a major transformation with the creation of recreational, tourist and cultural zones. The area upgrade will first of all take place in the surrounding areas of the Sea Station, leader of the board First Deputy Prime Minister Sergei Ivanov and regional governor Dmitri Dmitriyenko told the press.

The facelift is to be completed by year 2016, the 100-year anniversary of Murmansk City, RIA Novosti reports.

The Maritime Board to have the main responsibility for the upgrade, Ivanov confirms.

The sea façade will include a port and seaside areas for cruise liners, space for the floating museums of icebreaker Lenin and submarine K-3, and the reconstruction of the sea station, Governor Dmitriyenko adds, newspaper Rossiiskaya Gazeta reports.

The upgrade plans also includes the moving of all other companies based in the area.
