Most unpaid bills in Murmansk

People and companies in Murmansk Oblast owe regional heating suppliers a total of six billion RUB (140 million EUR). That is most in Northwest Russia.

Private households alone account for 4.6 billion RUB of the debts, regional Minister of Energy and Housing Gennady Mikichura says. The main reason for the high energy debts is the region’s major dependency of heating oil, he argues. The price on heating oil has increased significantly lately.

In September, regional authorities approached the federal Ministry of Finance with a request for a 2,5 billion RUB compensation. However, no positive responses have yet been received, Rossiiskaya Gazeta reports.

Talking to the press on Tuesday, Mikichura confirmed that the city of Murmansk, along with towns like Teriberka, Ura-Guba and Revda remain insufficiently prepared for the winter season. Meanwhile, the situation in the Pechenga Rayon and the city of Apatity is satisfactory, a press release from the regional administration informs.
