The most corrupt in Russia
Representatives of law enforcement authorities are the most corrupt in Russia along with people in Armed Forces, local authorities and the structures of the Ministry of Health, leader of the country’s Investigation Committee says.
Meeting with President Dmitry Medvedev last week, Committee leader Aleksandr Bastrykin said that law enforcement authorities accounted for about 34 percent of all registered corruption cases last year, a transcript from the meeting reads. The Armed Forces were the second worst with about 15 percent of the cases, while local authorities and health authorities were the respectively third and fourth worst.
A total of 6000 Russian officials were last year charged with corruption, Bastrykin told the President.
Medvedev in the meeting said that the figures about the law enforcement authorities witness about a “sad and dangerous” situation. –This shows that the system of the law enforcement authorities is hit by corruption no less than the civil state service, he added.
President Medvedev has taken several initiatives on combating corruption, but still admits that they have brought little success. In the Transparency International Corruption Perception Index for 2010, Russia is number 154 of the 178 countries studied.
