Tripling Murmansk cargo flows

The ports on the Kola Peninsula will handle an annual 58,6 million tons of goods by year 2030, a new report states.

Goods turnover of the regional ports will increase to 19,7 million tons in 2015 and further to 58,6 million tons in 2030, the report reads. The development will boost regional economy and give a significant increase in tax revenues, a press release from the regional administration informs.

Federal authorities in 2010 approved the Murmansk bid for the establishment of a special economic port zone. The report was this week presented and approved by the observatory council of the Murmansk Economic Port Zone, a body established to develop regional port infrastructure.

The growth in turnover will come first of all in Murmansk and in Teriberka, the authors of the report argue. And it will first of all be oil and gas, which drive the development.
