Murmansk-Vladivostok with Anna Karenina

The Norwegian actress Gørild Mauseth is preparing to play the role as Lev Tolstoj’s Anna Karenina at a theatre in Vladivostok. On her way there she will make stops in Murmansk and Solovki.

Rehearsals for the play start in October and the opening night is at the Primorsk Drama Theatre in the end of November. Mauseth will play the role as Anna Karenina in Russian, and she is now learning Russian and traveling 11 000 kilometres by train through the whole of Russia in her search for Anna’s character.

Before the rehearsals start, a documentary about the actress’ preparations to the role as Anna Karenina will be made. Parts of the film, which is called “Karenina and I” and directed by Mauseth’s husband, Italian director Tommaso Mottola, will be shot on the islands of Solovki in the White Sea.

The first stop on Mauseth’s Russian journey was Murmansk, where she visited the Drama Theatre and discussed the role as Anna Karenina with local experts, the Norwegian Consulate General in Murmansk writes on its web site.
