Nuclear icebreaker turns south
”50 Years of Victory” crossed the Arctic Circle Sunday morning and sails towards the North Sea.
The world’s largest nuclear powered icebreaker entered Norwegian economical zone Friday evening and followed the vessel traffic lane west along the coast of Finnmark. The Norwegian Coastal Administration’s Vessel’s Traffic Service (VTS) in Vardø is following the voyage from its monitors.
VTS says to BarentsObserver that “50 Years of Victory” (Russian name: “50 Let Pobedy”) was outside Sørøya in Finnmark early Saturday morning, then turned south sailing along the coast of Troms. The nuclear powered icebreaker crossed the Arctic Circle Sunday morning and will be outside the westcoast of Norway on Monday.
The vessel will then turn east into Skagerak late Monday or early Tuesday where she will sail in between Denmark and Sweden on her way to the Gulf of Finland.
