Det norske enters Barents
Second Norwegian oil company to obtain operatorship in Europe’s new oil province.
Production license 659 in the Barents Sea goes to Det norske, reads the overview posted on the portal of the Norwegian Petroleum Directorate. The block, located at 72 degrees northwest of Hammerfest is the northernmost of the licensees in the awards in predefined areas round for 2011.
Det norske says on its portal that the work on the block is comprehensive, acquiring 3D seismic and drilling a well.
The new offers for licenses on the Norwegian continental shelf included four in the Barents Sea and 22 in the Norwegian Sea. The rest were offered in the North Sea.

“The companies show great interest in the acreage made available in the APA. There was considerable competition in some of the areas in this year’s round. The overall level of the applications is quite good, and almost everyone will be awarded acreage,” says Sissel Eriksen, director of exploration for the Norwegian Petroleum Directorate.
