Russian naval exercise in the Mediterranean
Vessels from three of Russia’s fleets will be conducting naval drills in the Mediterranean in the coming days.
The Greek Joint Staff has given green light for the Russia vessel group led by the country’s only aircraft carrier “Admiral Kuznetsov” to conduct flights in western Greek air territory. The exercise will probably take place in the days January 3-6, Vedomosti writes.
The vessel group includes the destroyer “Admiral Chabanenko”, the support vessel “Nikolay Chiker” and the tanker “Sergey Osipov” from the Northern Fleet, the frigate “Yaroslav Mudry” from the Baltic Fleet as well as vessels from the Black Sea Fleet.
The vessels group from the Northern Fleet left its base in Severomorsk on December 6 and is planned to visit ports in Lebanon and Syria.
