Statoil to drill Barents wildcat

The well is located 100 kilometres northwest of the Snøhvit natural gas field in the western Barents Sea.

Statoil is granted the permit to drill the well by the Norwegian Petroleum Directorate. Statoil will use the rig Aker Barents to drill the well. The rig has been used for several other wells in the Barents- and Norwegian seas the latest years.

Statoil is the main operator with a 50% ownership interest. The other licensees are Eni Norway with 30% and Petoro with 20%.

The drilling permit is granted on the condition that all other permits and consents required by other authorities have been secured before the drilling activity commences, the Petroleum Directorate reports.
