United Russia losing support in Murmansk
Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin’s ruling party has suffered surprisingly steep losses in Russia’s parliamentary elections, polling just under a 50 percent majority with 96 percent of the vote counted.
In the elections to the Murmansk Oblast Regional Duma the ruling party United Russia received 33,24 percent of the votes. The Communist Party got 22,91 percent, A Just Russia 21,64 percent and the Liberal Democratic Party 19,53 percent, the Murmansk Election Committee’s web site reads.
The final composition of the Regional Duma might be somewhat different, since many of the candidates who were elected personally belong to United Russia.

In the last elections to the Regional Duma, United Russia received 42,19 percent of the votes in Murmansk Oblast.
In this year’s election to the State Duma, the voters in Murmansk Oblast gave United Russia 32,02 percent of the votes (in 2007 – 55,1 %). The Communist Party got 21,76 percent (11 % in 2007), A Just Russia 19,67 percent (11 % in 2007) and the Liberal Democratic Party 18,11 percent (12,9 % in 2007).
Also in the other Russian Barents regions United Russia has done poorer than expected in the elections.
United Russia seems to be losing 77 seats in the State Duma. When 96 percent of the votes have been counted, the party has 49,54 percent. Voter turnout was 60,2 percent.
