Arkhangelsk airport up for modernization
Arkhangelsk airport will hopefully get a much-needed upgrading within the next few years. Reconstruction of the airport is now on a federal priority list.
Arkhangelsk airport has since last year been on a list of objects prioritized for getting financing through the federal budget, but is now named as one of the prioritized investment projects for strategic development of the North-Western Federal District, Arkhangelsk administration’s web site reads.
Maybe the best news for people who frequently use the Arkhangelsk airport is that the rough concrete cover of the landing strip will be replaced.
The apron and aircraft parking places are also planned to be reconstructed and the terminal building is expected to be refurbished, measures that will help to increase the capacity of the airport terminal. Today’s terminal has a capacity of only 300 passengers per hour.
The project has a total price tag of 7,8 billion rubles (app. €183 million)
Passenger traffic through the Arkhangelsk airport is growing. In 2010 the profit tripled and passenger turnover increased by 200 000 people from 2009 and reached 650 000 people, as BarentsObserver reported.
