Ex-Governor Yevdokimov awarded medal
Ex-Governor of Murmansk Yury Yevdokimov is awarded with the order “For Merits towards Murmansk Oblast”.
Yury Yevdokimov was Governor of Murmansk Oblast from 1996 to 2009. He now works as leader of the Sankt Petersburg branch of the Russian World Studios, one of Russia’s leading film production companies.
Yevdokimov was a staunch protector of regional economic interests, like fisheries and ports. He was extensively engaged in international cooperation. During one of his many visit to Norway, in 2008 he met with both the royal family, four ministers, as well as leading Norwegian industrial companies. In August 2007 he was awarded a medal as Commander of the Royal Norwegian Order of Merit by King Harald V for his contributions in the Norwegian-Russian cooperation

The decision to give Yevdokimov the medal was made unanimously by the public council for rewards and prizes, which is led by the regional Minister of Justice Vasiliy Plevako, TV21 reports.
“For Merits towards Murmansk Oblast” is given to people who have “made top achievements in providing prosperity and development for Murmansk Oblast” and “promoted Murmansk Oblast’s authority in the Russian Federation and abroad”.
The medal has been awarded to 22 people before, according to the regional government’s web site.
