Coastal border check-points to be opened
The small settlements of Teriberka and Liinkhamari on the coast of the Kola Peninsula will get border check-points for fishing vessels, says Murmansk Oblast Governor Dmitry Dmitriyenko.
According to Dmitriyenko, Russia’s First Deputy Prime Minister Viktor Zubkov has agreed that in order to support the local fishery sector, it would be an important measure to open border check-points for fishing vessels in the settlements of Teriberka and Liinakhamari, the Murmansk Regional Government’s web site reads.
The question is to be considered in February, Dmitriyenko says.
The establishment of check-points in these places will make it possible to conduct fishing outside the limit of Russian territorial waters without first having to go to Murmansk for border and customs control.

Dmitriyenko recently took part in a meeting led by Viktor Zubkov on development of the fishery sector. Another issue that was discussed on the meeting was prolongation of fishing quotas. Quotas are now given for ten years at a time, but Dmitriyenko believes the period can be prolonged: - This is necessary for the sector to develop in an effective way and for the people to be sure of their prospective, he said.
