Arkhangelsk welcomed its new bishop

The newly appointed Bishop Daniil of Arkhangelsk this week arrived in his new diocese. He replaces Bishop Tikhon, who passed away in October last year.

Bishop Daniil (Dorovskikh) comes from the South Sakhalin and Kuril diocese. The appointment in Arkhangelsk came as a complete surprise, he told journalists in a press conference on Tuesday and admitted that he know very little about his new place of work.

The new bishop brings with him several of his closest colleagues from the Sakhalin diocese, the press service of the Orthodox Church in Arkhangelsk informs.

As previously reported, Bishop Tikhon on 20 October 2010 died at the age of 47. His death came as a major shock to his followers. He had been an active member of the Council of Christian Churches in the Barents Region and also co-chaired the official Working Group between the Russian Ortodox Church and the Church of Norway. One of the main personal missions of Tikhon was the construction of a new cathedral in downtown Arkhangelsk. The construction was officially started in mid-2008.
