Ildar Dadin is moved from Karelia

The transfer of Dadin was this week confirmed by prison authorities in Karelia. It is not known where the captive will spend the rest of his two years prison term.

At the same time, a group of lawyers and human right activities continue their investigations of the Segezha prison colony No 7 where extensive abuse and mistreatment of prisoners are reported. 

In a letter to his wife Anastasia Zotova in October, Ildar Dadin said that he is subjected to cruel torture and that he might not survive much longer. Former inmates confirm a brutal regime of oppression and harassment. 

According to Anastasia Zotova, a group of ten former inmates are ready to report about cases of torture and mistreatment in the prison. The documentation will be handed over to the Investigative Committee in Karelia, Zotova says to newspaper Kommersant.

Prison No 7 in Segezha, Republic of Karelia, has got international attention after Dadin reported about the torturous treatment. The prison is also known as the place where Mikhail Khodorkovsky was locked up for more than two years. 

ldar Dadin was arrested on 3 December 2015 and subsequently sentenced to three years of jail. The sentence was later reduced to 2,5 years. He is the first person sentenced for violation of Article 212.1 in the Russian criminal code. Article 212.1 was adopted in July 2014. It describes «repeated violations of the rules of public gatherings».

The sentence says that Dadin had violated rules of public gatherings up to 30 times in the period 2012-2014. Among the rallies were protests against the 2012 presidential elections, Russian LGBT laws, the war in Ukraine and more.
