Arctic Race of Norway unveils route across top of mainland Europe

Running from August 16 to 19, the world’s northernmost professional bicycle race offers stunning Arctic wilderness scenic backdrops.

From Kirkenes in the east to Alta in the west, the stages of will go along the coast of the Barents Sea and across mountains between the northernmost fishing villages in the world.

With daylight around-the-clock, Arctic Race of Norway has gained worldwide TV coverage and become famous among elite cyclists. First held in 2013, the race has made its way through different areas of northern Norway, both north and south of the Arctic Circle.

For 2018, the entire race will take place in Norway’s northernmost region, Finnmark.

The race is an official event sponsored by the International Cycling Union (UCI). Norway’s own Thor Hushovd was the first year winner, while Belgian Dyland Teuns was winner in 2017 when the race went from Tromsø to Narvik.

The official route for the 6th edition of the race includes four stages, the organizers of the race announced at a press-conferance in Oslo on Monday.

  • August 16, Vadsø to Kirkenes, 190,5 kilometers. 
  • August 17, Tana to Kjøllefjord, 195 kilometers.
  • August 18, Honningsvåg to Hammerfest, 201 kilometers. 
  • August 19, Kvalsund to Alta, 145,5 kilometers.
