Chinese company to drill for Rosneft, Statoil
As Russian President Vladimir arrives in Beijing for a state visit, oil company Rosneft announces drilling contract with China Oilfield Services Ltd (COSL) in joint project with Statoil.
”The agreements open new perspectives for cooperation between the petroluem industry leaders in Russia, Norway and China in exploration of oil and gas resources”, Rosneft leader Igor Sechin says in a press release.
The Chinese company is to drill two wells in the Sea of Okhotsk as part of the comprehensive cooperation between the Russian and Norwegian companies. The deal was signed by the COSL and Magadanmorneftegaz and Lisyanskmorneftegaz, the two Russian-Norwegian joint ventures, Rosneft informs.
It will be the semisubmersible rig ”Nanhai-9”, which will do the drilling, due to take place in the course of 2016. The rig is capable of drilling in 5,300 feet of water down to a maximum depth of 25,000 feet
The Magadan-1 and Lisyansky fields are both part of the comprehensive cooperation agreement between Rosneft and Statoil signed in May 2012. That agreement also includes joint drilling in the Perssevsky license in the Barents Sea.
