Getting ready for Bovanenkovo launch

The first gas from the 4,9 trillion cubic meter big Bovanenkovo field will be pipelined to customers ahead of schedule.

The Bovanenkovo, the biggest gas field in the Yamal Peninsula, is in its final stage of preparation before launch, Vitaly Markelov, Deputy Chairman of Gazprom’s Management Committee, confirms. During a visit to Yamal this weekend, Markelov said that the first gas produced at the field will be delivered to customers in June this year. That is ahead of schedule, a press release from the company informs.

According to Gazprom, the first startup complex of the field has entered the final stage of pre-commission work. At the same time, the first string of the Bovanenkovo-Ukhta pipeline, which will bring the gas towards western markets, is in the process of being completed. Only small parts of welding remains on the 1240 km long pipeline, and testing is in the progress, the company confirms. A part of the pipeline crosses the shallow Baydaratskaya Bay, the waters connecting the Yamal Peninsula with the Nenets AO and Komi Republic.

Gazprom has also started the construction of the second string of the Bovanenkovo-Ukhta pipeline. To date, some 50 kilometers of the linepipe have been welded up, more than 300 kilometers of large-diameter pipes have been delivered. The string is to become gradually operational in the period 2013-2015, Gazprom informs.
