Goliat arrives at drillsite
Eni’s new Arctic platform reaches its destination in the Barents Sea. Production will start this summer, the company says.
The platform, the biggest ever built cylindrical FSPO, was yesterday towed from Hammerfest to the drillsite, about 80 km off the coast of northern Norway. The towing was carried out by the DOF Subsea vessel and took about 15 hours, the company informs in a press release.
The platform will start production in “the middle of this year”, Eni says. It will be world’s northernmost oil field in production
At the field location, the FPSO is now being connected to its 14 anchor lines. Then the cable supplying electrical power from the mainland will be connected and the risers installed, Eni reports.
The Goliat in mid-April arrived in Hammerfest after a 63-day voyage from the Hyundai yard in South Korea
The Goliat is the first oil-producing field in the Norwegian part of the Barents Sea. The project is operated by Eni (65%) with Statoil (35%) as partner. Estimated recoverable oil resources are 174 million barrels (20,5 million tons).
