Lukoil committed to clean production in Komi
Oil company Lukoil will take all necessary measures to prevent pollution in the Timan-Pechora province, a new cooperation agreement with the Komi Republic declares.
The agreement signed by Lukoil President Vagit Alekperov and Komi Leader Vyacheslav Gaizer on Monday commits both parts to facilitate the development of geological exploration, production and processing in the region, a press release from the Komi administration reads.
The agreement also declares that Lukoil is committed to take “all necessary measures on the prevention of pollution” as well as to professionally handle all potential accidents, emergency situation and spills.
Climate in the region is harsh which puts the oil industry under extreme challenges. Several oil spills have taken place in the region, the biggest in Usinsk in 1994. As reported by BarentsObserver, also Lukoil-Komi has experiences several cases of spills around its installations in the region.

-The relationship between Lukoil and the Komi Government is a model for successful relations between business and state authorities, Vyacheslav Gaizer underlines in the press release. The agreement covers a four-year period.
Lukoil has operated in the Komi Republic since 1999. The company subsidiary Lukoil-Komi today holds 72 licenses with total reserves of about 600 million tons of oil. In 2008, the company produced a total of 14,6 million tons of oil, the company website informs.
