Second well in production at Prirazlomnoye
Gazprom Neft has brought its second well into production at the Prirazlomnoye field in the Pechora Sea.
The new well has an output of 1,800 tons per day, and the company believes that the launch of this facility will see production increase more than two-fold in comparison with 2014 production levels at Prirazlomnoye, which stood at 300,000 tons, Gazprom Neft’s website reads.
The Prirazlomnoye field is Russia’s only offshore oil producing facility in the Arctic. It is now headed by Andrey Patrushev, Gazprom Neft’s new director for offshore projects.
Since start of production in December 2013, the platform has produced 4.3 million barrels of crude oil. Field reserves are estimated to about 72 million tons of oil and peak production of five million tons is planned for about 2020.
Altogether, the project envisages 36 wells being brought into production, including 19 production wells, 16 re-injection wells, and one absorption well.
The field platform Prirazlomnaya received the world’s attention in September 2013, when two journalists and 28 activists from Greenpeace, later dubbed “the Arctic 30”, were arrested and imprisoned in Murmansk for over two months following a protest against Arctic drilling.
