New foreign minister adds power to Norway’s feminist government
With the appointment of Ine Eriksen Søreide as foreign minister, all three top posts in the Norwegian cabinet are held by women.

«This is historical in a Norwegian perspective - it is the first time that the posts of finance minister, prime minister and foreign minister are all held by women», Erna Solberg said as she appointed Ine Eriksen Søreide new foreign minister, the country’s first ever woman in the position.
«We are a true feminist government», Solberg underlines in a video posted on the government website.
After the appointment, there are now nine female and ten male ministers in Solberg’s cabinet.
Eriksen Søreide comes from the post as minister of defence and replaces Børge Brende, who is now moving to Geneva to take over the position as president of the World Economic Forum.
«I have been so lucky to have the post as defence minister for four year, it has been an incredibly exciting job, and now I am ready for new interesting tasks», Eriksen Søreide says in a comment.
As part of the government reshuffle, Frank Bakke-Jensen is appointed as new defence minister, while the post as Minister of EEA and EU Affairs is taken over by Marit Berger Røsland.
