Fishery leader caught in bribery
Leader of the Northwest Russia Department of the Federal Fishery Agency has been charged on suspicion of bribery.
With the help of a middleman, fishery agency leader Sergei Muravyov illegitimately got five million RUB when hiring a new employee, a representative of the Russian Investigating Committee told RIA Novosti.
Prosecutors last week wanted Mr Muravyov jailed, however a court allowed him continued freedom of movement after he had paid a bail of five million RUB.
Sergei Muravyov heads the Federal Fishery Agency’s Northwest Russia department, which includes the Republic of Karelia, Leningrad Oblast, Sankt Petersburg as well as the Vologda, Pskov and Novgorod Oblasts. The department does not include Murmansk Oblast, which is part of the agency’s Barents-White Sea department.
