Terje Meyer
"It is all about resilience"
Norway is experiencing a more dangerous and unpredictable world situation, the country's new white paper on civil preparedness warns. We talked with Terje Meyer, head of the Norwegian Civil Defence in Eastern Finnmark, about preparedness and civil resilience in the border region.
It is a question about resilience, Terje Meyer underlines in a podcast with the Barents Observer.
"Resilience encompasses all the population's abilities to withstand any sort of crisis or incident or accident. Civil preparedness and protection is a part of it," the regional leader of the Norwegian Civil Defence says.
The region of responsibility of Terje Meyer includes the Norwegian border areas to Russia. Moscow's war of aggression against Ukraine, hostile position against Nordic neighbours and sabotage acts on foreign soil have raised the alarm across Europe. Including in eastern Finnmark.
There is an increasing awareness among locals, Meyer explains. Among his key issues of concern are hybrid threats from the neighbouring country in the east.
