Overran runway at Novaya Zemlya

A Nordavia AN-24 propeller got substantial damage on its landing gear when it overran the runway at the Arctic airport Rogachevo on Tuesday.

The aircraft went some eight meters off the 2,500 meter long runway that is operated by the Russian Air Force. None of the 32 passengers and crew of four were injured, reports RIA Novosti.

The Nordavia plane was on a scheduled flight from Arkhangelsk to the airport they say is Amderma-2, which is the code name of the military Rogachevo airport on the southern part of Novaya Zemlya.

AN-24 is the same aircraft as the Arkhangelsk based airliner Nordavia uses on flights to Tromsø in Northern Norway and Helsinki in Finland via Murmansk.
