Still no payment from Defense Ministry

The Russian Defense Ministry has still not paid its dept to the local heating company in Severomorsk and the Northern Fleet’s main base is again under risk of being left without heating.

As BarentsObserver reported, several barracks and other buildings in the main base of Russia’s largest fleet were left without heating after the Defense Ministry has failed to repay the local heating company a €2.3 million debt.

According to the local heating company, the ministry sent a letter of guarantee on swift repayment of the debt, but only parts of it has so far been received, news agency Regnum.ru reports. The company again threatens to turn off heating to administration buildings, garages and offices. Barracks where people live will not be turned off from heating this time.

The temperature in Severomorsk is now -10°C.
