Head of Olympic construction new Governor of Komi
Russian President Vladimir Putin has appointed former chief of Olympstroy Sergey Gaplikov as Acting Governor of the Komi Republic.
At the same time, Putin fires the former Governor Vyacheslav Gaizer, citing “loss of confidence” in the disgraced official who has been arrested on charges of fraud and organizing a criminal group aimed at embezzling state assets, Vedomosti reports.
Sergey Gaplikov was the last President of the state corporation Olympstroy, which developed and built Olympic venues for last year’s winter Games in Sochi. Before he took over this company in 2011, he was Deputy Head of the Government’s Administrative Office, and before this Prime Minister of the Republic of Chuvashia.
