Owners: «No changes for BarentsObserver»
According to Finnmark County Authoritiy, the decision by the owners of the Barents Secretariat not to allow BarentsObserver to be subject to the Rights and Duties of the Editor, will have no impact on the news website’s further work.
As BarentsObserver reported, the Barents Secretariat’s Owners Assembly in a meeting on Thursday approved a proposal prohibiting BarentsObserver from following editorial independence as stipulated in the Rights and Duties of the Editor. BarentsObserver is owned and operated by the Norwegian Barents Secretariat, whose respective owners are the three northernmost counties in Norway.
“The website BarentsObserver, which is owned by the Norwegian Barents Secretariat, will continue as before as a website, the Finnmark County Authority writes on their website. “It [BarentsObserver] brings information about the Barents Region, and is not subject to the Rights and duties of the Editor.”
At the meeting on Thursday, the owners of the Barents Secretariat decided that BarentsObserver will continue to be owned by the Barents Secretariat; that BarentsObserver will continue to be a website delivering information about the Barents cooperation and news from the Barents Region and the Arctic; and that BarentsObserver will not be subject to the Rights and Duties of the Editor, the authorities claim.
“This means that nothing is changed for BarentsObserver,” the county authorities write.
The same message is posted on the website of Troms County Authority, a portal that until today read that it followed the Rights and Duties of the Editor.
