Political cleanse in Komi continues
The onslaught of the political elite in the Komi Republic expands as regional police arrests the mayor of Syktyvkar.
Law enforcement officers say Ivan Pozdeev is charged for engagement in several illegal deals over forest properties, news site 7x7-journal.ru reports with reference to local sources.
The city mayor was detained during a vacation period. Investigatitive action is now conducted in the local town town hall. According to Komiinform.ru, it is the regional FSB which is running the case.
According to 7x7-journal, the arrest of the city mayor is not connected with last week’s detention of regional Governor Vyacheslav Gaizer and another 14 top regional politicians and officials.
Pozdeev took over the mayor’s chair in 2011. Also mayoral predecessor Roman Zenishev is currently under investigations for corruption, Interfax reports.
