Rosneft bids for Murmansk terminal

Rosneft subsidiary RN-Aktiv has requested the Russian Federal Antimonopoly Service for permission to acquire 100 percent of the Lavna terminal, RIA Novosti reports.

The terminal which is located on the western shore of the Kola Bay, just few kilometers from Murmansk City, is today controlled by company Sintez Petroleum.

Lavna is a key spot in the major development program for the western side of the Kola Bay. The projected Murmansk Transport Hub includes the construction of a new railway line, as well as a new oil terminal, a coal terminal and other industrial objects.

Rosneft is a key stakeholder in the Transport Hub project.

In 2014, the company used the Lavna area in connection with its major operations at the University-1 well in the Kara Sea. In only a 3-month time, about 2000 oil servicemen, many of them Norwegians, were sent by boat from Lavna to the drillsite in the Kara Sea. In that connection, Rosneft managed to make government remove restrictive traveling restrictions in the area.
