“A crêpe is not a spike – it will not cut your stomach”.
During the celebrations of the traditional Russian holiday devoted to the end of the winter and the beginning of spring, citizens of Arkhangelsk have eaten 20 000 crêpes.
The wooden architecture museum “Malye Kareli” last week organized a big celebration of the Pomor Maslenitsa and fed its visitors with tasty crêpes during the whole week.
In old times people used to say “A crêpe is not a spike – it will not cut your stomach” and would eat as many as they could during the celebration week. Following the tradition, the Malye Kareli” museum cooked 20 000 crêpes. The biggest crêpe was made by the new governor of Arkhangelsk Igor Orlov.
Besides the celebrations, the charity campaign “Give a holiday to a child” was started, which is directed towards helping adopted children, families with many children and children living in orphanages. More than 200 children from the Arkhangelsk region visited the museum and took part in the celebrations, which were finished by the Maslenitsa scarecrow burning.
