Rovaniemi teams up with Angry Birds

Lappset playground manufacturer will bring together the digital game world with physical activity for children around the globe.

The world’s first Angry Birds activity park will be built next year in Rovaniemi and Espoo in Finland, the Rovaniemi based Lappset company reports in a press-release on Monday.

The agreement with the producer of Angry Birds mobile games to manufacture play apparatus can be multi-million businesses for Lappset. Finnish developed mobile game Angry Birds is now downloaded 600 million times worldwide and has 180 million active monthly users.

All the playground equipment will be inspired by Angry Birds characters.

- We will be developing a service which brings together the digital world and the physical world in a way that’s never been seen before. The popularity of Angry Birds isn’t restricted to any age, sex or social group, and the activity parks too will be designed to be interesting places for absolutely everyone, all around the world, says Peter Vesterbacka, chief marketing officer with Rovio Entertainment Oy, creator of Angry Birds.

The Rovaniemi based Lappset also sees huge potential in connecting the digital world with real-life activities.

- Working with Angry Birds will extend Lappset’s opportunities in the growing Asian market and strengthen its product range to improve the health and fitness of people of all ages, while also highlighting Lappset’s ability to be the leading and most innovative company in its field. Getting people of all ages active is extremely important for society, says Juha Laakkonen, managing director of Lappset Group.

In addition to offering different special designed equipment for playgrounds, Lappset will also make complete activity parks that will be called Angry Birds Magic Places.

Established in 1970, Lappset has developed to be a huge playground supplier, with deliveries to more than 40 countries. The companies turnover was €45 million in 2010
