Chapel on site of crash
An Orthodox chapel will be built on the site where an aircraft crashed and killed 47 outside Petrozavodsk.
Authorities in the Republic of Karelia have decided to build a chapel at the site of the crash with the Tu-134 on 20 June, RIA Novosti reports. The aircraft, which was on its way from Moscow, crashed on a highway near the local airport in Petrozavodsk, Republic of Karelia, and killed 47 of the 52 passengers.
A special commission is currently investigating the accident. Weather in the area was bad at the time of the crash, and the landing lights at the airport was reportedly not working as they should.
An bank account for donations to the project has been opened, the regional government informs.
