Rosneft might invite more foreigners to the shelf

Russia’s biggest oil company Rosneft says that it expects to get a number of new offshore production licenses and that foreign companies might be invited in as partners.

Talking to journalists this week, Rosneft leader Eduard Khudainatov confirmed that his company is bidding for another 25 Russian offshore licenses and that strategic investors, including foreign ones, could be invited to join in several of them, RBC.ru reports.

The news comes just days after Rosneft struck a historic deal with BP on cooperation in the Arctic.

According to Khudainatov, his company has submitted bids for 25 new offshore licences, which currently are being handled by the Agency of Mineral Resources (Rosnedra)

As BarentsObserver reported, the strategic alliance between Rosneft and BP is criticized by environmentalists. Arctic neighbor Norway, however, has positively commented on the partnership.
