Arctic oil contract for Siemens

Siemens has signed a contract with the oil company Eni on delivery of an onshore electrification system for the Goliat oil field outside Hammerfest, Northern Norway.

The contract has a value of NOK 243 million (€29.9 million) and is the biggest Siemens has ever concluded on this field, the company writes in a press release.

The contract means that Siemens will have the total responsibility for delivery of all the onshore installations in Hammerfest that will supply the oil production field with electricity. This includes a new transformer station, new overhead lines and, new underground cables. The new installations will also make the power supply to the town of Hammerfest more stable.

Operator of the Goliat field is Eni Norge as (65%) together with partner Statoil (35%). The development of Goliat will be the first development of an oil field in the Norwegian sector of the Barents Sea.

Production at the Goliat field is planned to start in 2013.
