Northern Fleet raises flag on new special purpose vessel
The Grachonok-class boat is made for anti-terrorism missions in northern waters. It is the fifth of its kind in the Northern Fleet.
The P-475 is built at the Vympel Yard in Rybinsk and this fall sailed through the Volga-Baltic Waterway and further to the Kola Peninsula.
The 31 meter long ship is now based in Polyarny, the Northern Fleet town located few kilometres from the City of Murmansk.
In a ceremony in Polyarny, ship commander Vladislav Lidinchuk officially raised the flag on the new vessel. Present on site were several leading naval representatives, among them Rear Admiral Oleg Gladkii, military newspaper Na Strazhe Zapolyariya reports.
Russia has over the past 15 years built almost 30 vessels of the Grachonok-class. The P-475 is the fifth for the Northern Fleet.
The Grachonok-class is designed for anti-sabotage and anti-terrorism operations.
The ships are reportedly equipped with special electronics and communication equipment, including the MR-231 Pal naval radar and the MTK-201M3 multipurpose TV shipborne system, as well as hydro-acoustic equipment for detection of underwater operations.
Until recently, the vessels were also equipped with th Falcon underwater electric robotic system and the Kalmar search complex.
On board is also a ship diving complex with recompression chamber.
