Ready for Barents Rescue 2011
More than 600 to participate in cross-border emergency drill in Luleå, northern Sweden.
Rescue teams from Sweden, Norway, Russia and Finland will have to deal with evacuation of a large number of people following a flooding at an island outside of Luleå. When one of the participating boats is navigating in the narrow waters a collision happens. At the same time the rescue service is alerted to a fire onboard the icebreaker “Atle” moored in the harbour. The scenario with a maritime rescue is made in order to meet the competencies and capacities of the participating teams.
Barents Rescue is a bi-annual cross-border exercise initiated by the Barents Council. It was first time arranged in Porsanger in northern Norway in 2005, in Finnish Lapland in 2007 and in Murmansk in 2009.
