Propeller plane vs snowstorm during polar night

Will the aircraft make it through northern Norway?

We fly one of the fascinating routes connecting remote Arctic towns in Norway just as one of the biggest storms of the winter season hits.

There are no railways in the far north of Norway and the mountainous coastline can make car journeys extremely long, so planes are an important means of travel for tourists and locals alike. Here in Finnmark County, 11 airports serve a population of just 75,000.

If it is not polar night, passengers flying over northern Norway will see some of the most picturesque scenery in the world.

Blizzards, polar nights, aurora borealis and breathtaking scenery - a small propeller plane from the Norwegian airline Widerøe hops across the fjords and mountains every day. In December 2024 we fly from the Norwegian town of Kirkenes to the city of Tromsø with several other stops on the way.

Will we be stranded in the snowstorm, or will we make it to our final destination? Take a look at the video report!
