The result for October is NOK 546 million or 7% more than in October 2014. So far this year, Norway has sold seafood worth NOK 60 billion, and increase of NOK 4.1 billion or 7% compared to the same period in 2014, the Norwegian Seafood Council reports

Never before has export of seafood exceeded NOK 8 billion in a single month. The main export commodity, salmon, totalled almost NOK 4.7 billion, an increase of 18% compared to October last year. The increase is partly a result of record high prices, but also high demands from EU, Asia and US markets.

Norway exported 103,360 tons of salmon in October. This is the largest ever single-month volume total. Poland and France are now the biggest markets for Norwegian salmon.

On August 7th 2014 Russia imposed a total ban on imports of seafood and other foodstuffs from Norway, US, EU and some other countries. This was expected to have a big impact on parts of Norwegian exports, as Russia was one of the largest markets for Norwegian seafood. The ban has hit sales of herring and trout, but for salmon the exporters have managed to find other markets.
