You might want this monster vehicle on your journey across the Russian Arctic

Aleksey Makarov and his small car factory in Yekaterinburg is making terrain vehicles of the kind the world has not yet seen. The «Burlak», which is now about to come into serial production, is capable of crossing wetlands, deep snow and even maneuver in open waters. According to company product description, the «Burlak» will stay afloat without problems with eight passengers and two tons of cargo on board.

The vehicle rules the landscape with its length of 7,5 meter long and height of 3,2 meter. The width is 2,8 meter and the tires as high as 2,7 meter. It has a light and solid bodywork made of aluminium and a 150 horsepower Cummins 2,8 ISF engine.

«It is made for autonomous expeditions to the North Pole», Aleksey Makarov says on his company website. He made his first terrain vehicle in year 2010, the «Makar». Then, he produced the first prototype of the «Burlak» in 2016. In early 2017, he conducted a 3,000 km journey through the far northern Yamal region. Parts of the journey was through the icy waters of the Baydarata Bay.

«Taiga, snow roads, mountains, tundra, ice and open water of the Kara Sea - the Burlak has proven that it can cross all barriers,» the factory says about the car.

Timing was good. Makarov and his colleagues were starting up as Russian authorities were making the Arctic a top priority. And the interest has been significant. The company is now launching serial production, and plan to build up to 12 vehicles per year.

Both Russian and foreign explorers, research institutes and companies are catching interest and the «Makak» and «Burlak» are now available in several models.
